Detailed Tours Description

1st day

Upon arrival at the airport we will be welcomed by our guide. He will bring us to our comfortable, centrally located hotel.

In the afternoon we will stroll around Ulaanbaatar. We will visit the Natural and the Historical Museums.

We will have dinner at a local restaurant.

(Hotel, L, D)

2nd day

After our breakfast at the hotel's restaurant we will leave Ulaanbaatar westwards for the Khangai Mountain region. We will have a long day driving on a relatively good road.

In the evening we will set up our tented camp close to Arvaikheer, capital city of Ovorkhangai province. Being of very little interest, we won't spend any in this city.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

3rd day

Today we will depart for a second day of intense driving. The asphalted road will become a track, making the driving much more uncomfortable.

In the evening we will reach the departure point of our cycle tour, the Southern part of the Khangai Mountain Chain.

The Khangai Mountain separates the south-mongolian arid Gobi desert region from the fertile rolling hills of the north. With its numerous little rivers in which water from melting snow flows the northern side of the mountain offers a lush, fertile home to many nomads.

4th until 6th day

Today we will start cycling northwards, across many passes to reach, after three days of intense efforts the northern hillside of the Khangai Mountain. Choosing to avoid the main route across the Khangai as much as possible, our route follows valleys that have seen few Western visitors and certainly none on mountain bikes.

En route we will pass sometimes forgotten valleys, sometimes broad valley full of ger settlements and yak herds. We will have many opportunities to visit nomad families and experience their warm hospitality. Those who want will have the chance to try the 'airag' or fermented horse milk. Our guide - translator will help us to forge contact with the local population.

Each evening we will set up our camp in a picturesque spot, often along one of the numerous rivers.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

7th day

Today we reach the northern side of the Khangai Mountain. The valley opens up and for the first time, we find patches of pine forest. It is for its beautiful nature that this region is called the 'Mongolian Switzerland'.

We will have a full day cycling to reach end of the afternoon the Tsenkher hot spring resort. Managed by Japanese this resort has a large open-air pool at its customer's disposal. The hot water of the pool flows continuously in from the hot water spring. At the spring, the temperature of the water is over 80 ° C. A complex pipelines system regulates the water temperature.

After all those days cycling, some will spend hours sitting in the pool, relaxing, talking while staring at the stars or scanning the nightly nature around them.

We will overnight in the gers (Mongolian traditional tents) of the resort.

(Ger camp, B, L, D)

8th day

Today's ride is the longest and one of the best of the trip of our expedition. We will cycle through a magic combination of forested hills, granite formations and broad ferrite valleys dotted with scattered gers.

Finally we will reach the Orkhon valley with its famous waterfalls. The area surrounding the Orkhon waterfalls is a green, with forest covered mountainous area. The valley is known as the cradle of the Mongolian civilization. Many ancient Mongolian as well as Turkish monuments lie within its borders.

In the evening we will put up our tents not far from the waterfalls.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

9th day

Today we will relax and enjoy the beautiful scenery. Some will hike in the tectonic originated gorges, some will fish, swim, and others will go for a ride on a horse. We will visit one more nomad family and experience the nomadic lifestyle. For dinner we will be offered a typical Mongolian barbeque that will be prepared by nomads of the area. We will one more time experience the warm hospitality offered by the Mongolian families.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

10th day

After breakfast we will start cycling in the Orkhon valley. In the evening we will set up our camps somewhere close to the riverside.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

11th day

After a short ride we will reach Kharkhorin (also called Karakorum), site of the 13th century capital of the Mongolian Empire created by Chinggis Khaan. Very little is left from this legendary city. In the 16th century, Mongolia's biggest Monastery was build from the ruins of Kharkhorin. Now Erdene Zuu Monastery are the remains of what once was a huge monastery of 100 temples and about 1.000 lamas residencing there.

We will explore the grounds of Erdene Zuu Monastery surrounded by its massive 400 m X 400 m walls. We will be guided around the 3 remaining temples: Dalai Lama, Zuu of Buddha and Lavrin Temple. We will also see the Turtle Rock and the Phallic Rock.

(Ger Camp, B, L, D)

12th day

After breakfast we will cycle to the Khogno Khan Mountains. It is an impressive massif in the open steppes. Not far from here runs the Tasarkhai Els, a 100 km long sand dune.

(Ger Camp, B, L, D)

13th day

In the morning before our departure for Ulaanbaatar we will visit the nice little Uvgun Monastery and for those who want, they will have the opportunity to walk up the mountain and enjoy the incredible view over the plains, the sand dune and grasslands.

Beginning of the afternoon we will drive back to Ulaanbaatar.

(Hotel, B, L, D)

14th day

Today we will have a full free day to stroll around in Ulaanbaatar and buy some souvenirs before heading back home. In the evening we will have a far well dinner in a good restaurant.

(Hotel, B, D)

15th day
