Detailed Tours Description

1st day

Upon arrival at the airport we will be welcomed by your guide. He will bring us to your comfortable, centrally located hotel.

In the afternoon we will visit the Gandantegchinlen Monastery. It is the largest and most important monastery of Mongolia. We will scroll through the different monasteries, observe the daily rituals of the lamas and see the magnificent statue of Migjid Janraisig, a 82-food high statue gilded in gold and covered with silk cloths.

In the evening enjoy a welcome diner in one of the best restaurants of Ulaanbaatar.

(Hotel, L, D)

2nd day

Today we will take the plane for Ulaangom, capital city of Uvs province. Our vehicles will be waiting for us at the airport. From here we will driving on a rough but scenic road into the Kharkhiraa valley. We will reach the Kharkhiraa River where we will set up our tented camp. This river finds its sources in the Kharkhiraa Mountain. Its water flows into the Uvs Lake

(Tented Camp, B, L, D).

3rd day

Today we will head for Uureg Lake, which lies close to the Russian border and Siberia. It is a large, beautiful slightly salt-water lake surrounded by glorious mountains and some snow-capped 3000 meters plus peaks. The mouth of the valley leading into the lake is lined with nomad's summer gers. The scene is breathtaking and so are the people. We will have the opportunity to visit some families.

Before reaching the lake we will cross the Ulaan Davaa Pass, enjoying the views of the red mountains and sprawling valley floor.

We will hike the whole afternoon around the lake.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

4th day

In the morning we will leave for Olgii, capital city of Bayan-Olgii. This Muslim influenced region is, unlike the rest of Mongolia, dominated by Khalkh Mongolians.

En route we will cross the Ogotor Hamar Pass from which you will have breathtaking views of the region.

Passing Olgii, we will set of for the Altai Tavan Bogd National Park. This beautiful park with its high mountain peaks stretches out south of the Tavan Bogd Mountain (Mongolia's highest point, 4.370 meters) and includes the three stunning lakes of Khoton, Khurgan and Dayan. The Tavan Bogd Mountain is the intersection of three borders, Mongolian, Russian and Chinese.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

5th day

After breakfast we will drive deeper into the Altai Mountain Chain. In spring, melting snow from the Altai Mountain ends up in the lakes of the Great Depressions. Being deprived of outlets to the sea, those salt lakes become giant evaporating points.

We will follow the Tsagaan valley stream upwards. En Route we will see richest collections of petroglyphs. We will set up our tented camp along the Tsagaan River.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

6th day

Today we will start our 15-day trek in the Altai Mountain. We will head westward into the direction of Tavan Bogd Mountain. In the afternoon we will reach the Potanii, Mongolia's longest glacier.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

7th until 12th day

It will take us six days to travel from the food of the Tavan Bogd Mountain to the Khoton Lake. We will cross the Maniit Pass and trek along the Maniit Mountain, which peak rises at 3.245 meters altitude.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

13th until 17th day

For the next five days we will trek in the lake depression of Tavan Bogd National Park. We will trek along the edge of the Khoton and the Khurgan lakes; reach Dayan Lake before setting off for the Tsenkher Khaikhan Mountain.

En route we will have many opportunities to visit nomad families. We will experience their warm hospitality. Sometimes evenings we will set up our tented camp close to their settlement. For dinner we will be offered a typical Mongolian barbeque that will be prepared by them. Those who want will have the opportunity to try the 'airag' or fermented horse milk. Our guide - translator will help us to forge contact with the local population.

(Tented Camp, B, L, D)

18th day and 21st day

For the next three days we will trek in the Tsenkher Khaikhan Mountain region. Its snow-capped peak rises at 3.940 meters above the sea level.
